An x-ray treatment apparatus (1) includes an x-ray generating device (8), a head unit (6), a manipulator (5) and a microwave source (4). The x-ray generating device (8) produces x-rays, by letting electrons, which have been emitted from an electron gun (9), be accelerated by a linear accelerator (11) and strike a target (10). The acceleration of electrons is effected by microwaves. The x-ray generating device (8) is accommodated in the head unit (6). The head unit (6) is attached to a distal end portion of the manipulator (5). The manipulator (5) positions the head unit (6) such that x-rays emitted from the head unit (6) may be applied to a part for medical treatment in a patient (P). The microwave source (4) is disposed at a proximal end portion (5a) of the manipulator (5). Microwaves are propagated from the microwave source (4) to the accelerator (11) through a waveguide (12). <IMAGE>
