The resonator system comprises a housing 12,16 surrounding an air duct 28,50 and containing at least two resonators of different types. Hollow bell-shaped section 12 has an air inlet nose 30 and contains a inner section 14 with duct part 28 which has apertures 36 and carries radial dividing walls 38 so as to form a number of Helmholtz resonator chambers 4. The duct part 28 also has annular rings 42,(44) and perforations 46,48 so as to form high-frequency resonator chambers 66,68. Housing part 16 is connected to the outlet tube 56 of outlet section 18 and contains duct part 50. A clearance exits between the outer wall of duct part 50 and the inner wall of outlet tube 56 so that an annular entry resonator chamber (72) is formed. The multi-chamber design allows complex tuning to reach the desired sound quality and facilitates efficient use of space in the vehicle.
