PURPOSE: A display device for discriminating abnormal video signals and a method thereof are provided to display the abnormality of video signals after checking RGB signals periodically in addition to vertical/horizontal synchronizing signals, thereby easily recognizing the reasons of the abnormal screen display. CONSTITUTION: A display method for discriminating abnormal video signals includes the steps of determining video signals to currently check in sequence as RGB image signals are input(310-330). A video signal area is set to check for the currently input signal(340). After a predetermined time, a minimum level value in the corresponding area of the selected video signal is read out(350). The read minimum level value is compared with a predetermined threshold value(360). The threshold value is a reference value for determining the existence of the RGB signals. If the minimum level value is smaller than the threshold value, a flag is set for informing a user of the abnormality of the corresponding video signal(370). In the other case, the flag is reset(380).
