In a system having a fault detection arrangement which identifies all the unknown components in a connection by injecting a special signal into a known component so that it traverses one wire of the connection whereby the appearance of the signal at the unknown components serves to identify these, the arrangement is modified so that it can be used for identifying the components without setting-off any alarms. Under fault conditions the identification is effected automatically and the results recorded intermediately on a fault-relay-contact-tree prior to their transfer to an e.g. lamp panel. When it is required to identify the components of a connection the fault contact-tree is disabled and an alternative contact-tree is connected in its place and, the special signal is injected into a known component e.g. a junctor under the control of a keyboard. |
