A diagnostic agent for the detection of components of whole blood comprises an absorbent carrier which has first been impregnated with specific reagents and indicators and thereafter rendered hydrophobic; alternatively the absorbent carrier may be first impregnated with the specific reagents and then treated with the indicators and hydrophobing agent simultaneously. The hydrophobing agent may be natural or synthetic fat, oil, wax, paraffin, silicone or a mixture thereof. Examples relate to:- (1), glucose determination, strip made hydrophobic with paraffin; (2), galactose determination, strip made hydrophobic with paraffin; (3), glucose determination, strip made hydrophobic with silicone oil; (4), phenyl-alanine determination, strips made hydrophobic with paraffin or silicone oil. |
