<p>A process for the preparation of wax esters by transesterifying a C2-60 fatty ester with a C1-30 fatty alcohol at a pressure below atmospheric pressure. Wax esters in improved chemical yield or with improved purity, reduced colour or reduced odour may be obtained. The process may be performed in the presence of a catalyst, preferably a non-recyclable basic catalyst such as sodium methylate. The process is preferably performed at a pressure below 0.1 atm and at a temperature between 60 and 100 {C. The wax esters may be useful in home care, fabric care, cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceutical or confectionary applications.</p> |
