The machine for cleaning railway track ballast (6) has two adjustable chain excavators (12, 19) mounted on individual trucks (2, 4) which remove ballast from the track bed. Each truck is also fitted with a rail lift (13, 20). Conveyors (15, 24) feed ballast from the excavators to a common sieve (10) from which clean ballast is fed back to the track by a third conveyor (25). Independent claims are included for: (a) a similar machine with a vibrating edge compactor (33) mounted between the trucks; and (b) a method for cleaning railway track ballast using the machine. |
