Production of citral by catalytic rearrangement of dehydrolinalool is effected in the presence of (a) a catalyst system comprising a molybdyl compound and a dialkyl or diaryl sulfoxide, (b) an organic acid with a pK of 4.0-6.5 and (c) a nonpolar aprotic solvent. The molybdyl compound is of formula (I): X = acetylacetonate or halide. |
