PURPOSE: To display an image which has an excellent contrast and good visibility even in a light environment wherein ambient light is never reduced by making the inside of a room dark. CONSTITUTION: A projector 1 imposes intensity modulation on RGB primary- color light according to image information and projects it on a screen 2 for an image display device and this screen 2 for the image display device is lightened up by a light 3 emitting ambient light having a wavelength different from that of the RGB primary-color light. The screen 2 for the image display device has a larger reflection factor to the ambient light than to the RGB primary-color light.
