PURPOSE: A device for inspecting surface defects of roll is provided in which surface inspection of rolling roll is mechanically performed at grinder to improve inspection accuracy and reduce work load. CONSTITUTION: The device comprises a moving support(10) mounted on a grinding machine so that the moving support(10) is moved along a length direction of rolling roll by driving motor(22); a moving plate(50) mounted on the moving support(10) so that the moving plate(50) is moved in a direction perpendicular to the rolling roll from an upper part of the rolling roll by driving motor(42); a lowerable and liftable plate(60) mounted on a lower part of the moving plate(50) so that the lowerable and liftable plate(60) is vertically lowered and lifted by cylinder(81); and a probe mounted on a lower part of housing(83) fixed to a lower part of the lowerable and liftable plate(60) to inspect surface defects of the rolling roll as the probe is being moved along the surface of the rolling roll.
