PURPOSE: A pulley for a continuously variable transmission is provided to considerably reduce load of an oil pump by removing frictional elements of a metal belt and a metal pulley and to produce a pulley having heavy power-transmitting load without the length limit of a pulley piece. CONSTITUTION: A pulley for a continuously variable transmission is composed of fixed supports(2) integrally rotating with a pulley shaft(1); movable supports(3) spline-combined with the pulley shaft to freely move in the axial direction; a piston device(4) for regulating the movable support by hydraulic pressure; at least 16 combining grooves(5,5') radially arranged to a conical surface of the fixed and movable supports under a same condition; at least 16 pulley pieces(8) mounted to the combining grooves and formed with frictional surfaces(7) and combining units(6,6') spline-combined at the same time; pulley piece springs(9) for putting the pulley pieces through a spring steel wire and pulling the pulley pieces toward the center of the pulley shaft; and pulley support springs(10) for keeping a mounting stability of the pulley pieces.
