PURPOSE: A method for producing target substance by fermentation using a bacterial strain lacking the ArcA gene is provided, thereby improving the productivity of the target substance such as L-amino acid by using gamma-proteobacterium. CONSTITUTION: The method for producing target substance using a microorganism comprises culturing a gamma-proteobacterium in a medium to produce and accumulate the target substance in the medium or cells and collecting the target substance, wherein the gamma-proteobacterium has the ArcA protein which does not normally function in the cell by means of, for example, disruption of the arcA gene on the chromosome; and the proteobacterium includes Escherichia coli.
