PURPOSE: To provide a low-cost defrosting heater which is adapted to a household refrigerator using an inflammable HC cooling medium, has high heating efficiency, and is excellent in safety characteristics. CONSTITUTION: The defrosting heater 20 for the household refrigerator supports a heat-resistant glass tube 7, an electric heat wire 6 inserted into the glass tube 7, a metal tube 11 where the glass tube 7 is loosely inserted and which surrounds the circumference of the glass tube, and lead line portions 13 of the electric heat wire 6 pulled out from both ends of the glass tube 7. The defrosting heater has a double structure of the outer metal tube 11 and the inner glass tube 7 which have heat-resistant seal caps 12 and 12 almost sealing both end openings of both the metal tube 11 and the glass tube 7, and maintains the outer surface temperature of the metal tube 11 having high heat dissipation efficiency in that less than the safety standard temperature which is ignition temperature of the HC cooling medium minus 100°C.
