[Also in Division B8] The outer layers c of a coil C of sheet metal are tightened by means of a strap or chain applied in a loop round the coil by means of feed rollers 20, and a guide 16 situated above the coil, Fig. 1 (not shown). An extra length F of strap is formed after the strap is gripped in jaws 28. The rollers 20 are reversed to withdraw the length F once the strap is drawn on to the outer layer of the coil. This withdrawal tightens the coil by friction against the outer layer, enabling the coil to be packaged (see Division B8).
