The coefficient of friction of a cured or uncured high unsaturation elastomer is reduced by contacting the surface of the elastomer with sulphur tetrafluoride under anhydrous conditions at a temperature between -30 DEG C. and the degradation temperature of the elastomer. Elastomers specified are natural rubber, SBR, nitrile rubber, and polychloroprene. |
