PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sustained release material hardly affected by an amount, a kind or a property of a gelatinization agent and a transpiration material such as an essential oil, and the using environment such as temperature, and exhibiting an equated and stabilized transpiration rate and intensity over a long period; and to provide a method for producing the sustained release material. SOLUTION: The sustained release material is obtained by dissolving a gelatinization agent in an aqueous solution of a polyvinyl alcohol, freezing and thawing the obtained solution to provide a matrix comprising a three-dimensional net structure, and allowing the matrix to hold the transpiration material.
