PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material evaluating method applied to the quantitative evaluation of the amount of nonuniform, plastic deformation near the yield point in a high-strength steel micro texture on a smooth surface. SOLUTION: Minute difference at the same measuring point in irregularities on surface generated for each micro texture on the smooth surface is measured quantitatively before and after deformation by using an atomic force microscope with the extremely smooth surface having a fine diploid texture such as high-strength steel, a metal-based composite material, or a micro material as a target. Additionally, the correspondence of the amount of nonuniform, plastic deformation to the fine diploid texture is evaluated quantitatively by repeating measurement by changing the amount of deformation.
