It is intended to develop an antiviral agent efficacious against the occurrence of a retrovirus neutralization-resistant mutant (an escape mutant) by screening a drug inhibiting the interaction between a host factor and a virus factor. A method of screening a remedy against a retrovirus characterized by comprising measuring the inhibitory effect of a test compound on the rebinding of a once cleaved hairpin loop of genomic RNA in particles of the retrovirus, in particular, the inhibitory effect of the test compound on the rebinding in the process of the replication of the retrovirus by topoisomerase I originating in host cells; a compound having a significant inhibitory effect o the rebinding of a cleavage observed in hairpin loop genomic RNA in RNA virus particles by topoisomerase I; and a medicinal composition containing this compound as the active ingredient.
