<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can reduce toner splashing, spilling or the like due to an impact liable to be caused when a developing unit or a process cartridge including the developing unit is loaded in or unloaded from an apparatus body. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an image carrier, a latent image forming means of forming an electrostatically charged latent image on the image carrier, the developing unit which develops the electrostatically charged latent image into a toner image, a transfer means of transferring the toner image to a transfer material, and a cleaning means of cleaning the surface of the image carrier having passed through a transfer area, and is equipped with a control means of detecting the developing units being reloaded in the apparatus body after being unloaded and also driving and controlling at least the developing unit and image carrier. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
