PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct a fiber core separation for a optical fiber ribbon 19 by applying shallow cuts which reaches internal layer ribbon material 27 to a ribbon material 23 by first and second separating blades 15 and 17. SOLUTION: The ribbon material 23 consists of the inner layer ribbon material 27 in which a plurality of coated optical fibers 21 are arranged and collectively covered and an outer layer ribbon material 29 which covers the outer peripheral section of the material 27. The Young's modulus of the material 27 is defined as 0.1 to 200 MPa and the Young's modulus of the material 29 is defined as 400 to 2,000 MPa. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
