PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner in which a normal laser light source (light sources arranged at the beam interval of about 100μm) is used in a over-field scanning optical system and an image with high resolution can be obtained at a high speed, and to provide an image forming apparatus using the scanner. SOLUTION: The optical scanner is equipped with a monolithic laser light source 1 having a plurality of emission points, a polarizing means 8 to polarize and reflect the plurality of laser beams emitting from the laser light source, and a scanning optical system to guide the plurality of laser beams from the polarizing means to scan the objective surface, and the scanner scans the objective surface 15 with a plurality of laser beams. In this scanner, the plurality of laser beams emitting from the laser light source enter the polarizing plane of the polarizing means, with a wider beam width than the width of the polarizing plane of the polarizing means in the cross section of the main scanning direction. The scanner has a correcting means 6 to correct inhomogeneity of the luminosity in the image plane on the objective surface. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
