APPARATUS FOR REFORMING FUEL AND START-UP METHOD FOR THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for reforming fuel which is capable of remarkably shortening the temperature rising time of a methanol reformer and a CO selective oxidation apparatus until a normal operation temperature and the time necessary to attain a prescribed reforming rate, and a start-up method for the same.

SOLUTION: The apparatus for reforming fuel is provided with a heater-incorporated reformer 12 mounted in the upstream side of the methanol reformer 1 and equipped with a sheath heater having a reforming catalyst applied on the surface, a heater-incorporated selective oxidation apparatus 14 mounted in the upstream side of the CO selective oxidation apparatus 2 and equipped with a sheath heater having a CO selective oxidation catalyst applied on the surface, an auxiliary reformer 16 mounted in the upstream side of the heater-incorporated reformer 12 and incorporating the reforming catalyst, and an external heater 18 for preheating the reforming catalyst in the auxiliary reformer 16 to equal to or above the reaction start-up temperature.
