PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize identification of a circular object in high accuracy and at low cost. SOLUTION: This identifying method identifies the circular object to be detected on the basis of an output of a detection sensor which detects features on the surface of the circular object. Reference data Ti for the identification is configured for each incidence angle in advance and also a threshold value rt(i0) which is a reference for the identification is configured for each incidence angle i0 in advance. The features of the surface of the circular object is detected by the detection sensor to create data (step 3 to step 8) and the circular object is identified on the basis of the threshold value configured for each incident angle in advance (step 9 to step 11).
