PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical path deflection device having high speed responsiveness and deflecting the optical path of multi-values. SOLUTION: In this optical path deflection device, the high speed response operation can be achieved by performing the optical path deflection using optical path deflection elements 1A and 1B having liquid crystal layers 5 made of ferroelectric liquid crystal consisting of a chiral smectic C phase. Besides, optical path shift of multi-values can be achieved by combination of the optical path deflection by respective optical path deflection elements 1A and 1B by composing a plurality of optical path deflection elements 1A and 1B concerned with the objective optical path deflection direction as the optical path deflection device 11 by disposing them in a optical axis direction in such a manner that the inclination direction of their liquid crystal molecules 8 becomes in the same plane.
