PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated rattan material, which is completed in order to inexpensively supply a rattan product equal to or superior to a rattan product using skin rattan high in cost, low in supply quantity and difficult to handle in spite of high popularity, enhanced in the yield of rattan to be reduced in costs, realized in the enhancement of quality to reduce the costs of the rattan product expensive heartofore or to impart value added, does not cause warpage, corrosion or spoilage and enhanced in handleability or durability, and a rattan product using the same. SOLUTION: Rattan is longitudinally divided to be processed into a strip like material with a predetermined width being a rattan strip and an enamel substance constituting the surface of this rattan strip is removed. At least the surface from which the enamel substance is removed of the rattan strip and the side surface exposed by the longitudinal division of the rattan strip are coated with a polymer material.
