<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a liquid crystal display element display a uniform picture even when pretilt of liquid crystal molecules is made unnecessary in the guest-host reflective liquid crystal display element. <P>SOLUTION: In the guest-host reflective liquid crystal display element provided with a reflection film, the reflection film is constructed by at least a layer formed of liquid crystalline molecules. The liquid crystalline molecules are oriented in a state of a chiral smectic phase inside the layer. Wavelength selectivity to selectively reflect light with a specified wavelength and selectively transmit light with other wavelengths is imparted to the layer formed of the liquid crystalline molecules. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
