<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new catalyst composition for synthesizing optically active compound, a method thereof and a method for producing an optically active cyanohydrin compound with excellent yield and optical purity from an optically inactive starting material in a short time using the above method. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst composition contains optically active 1,1'-bi-2-naphthols, rare earth compounds (for example, compounds such as yttrium(Y), lanthanum (La), praseodymium (Pr), samarium (Sm) and gadolinium (Gd)), alkali metal compounds, and phosphorus or arsenic compounds (for example, triphenylphosphine, triphenylphosphine oxide or the like). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
