PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mold a molding having a highly precise surface shape close to design data with reduced number of times of the correction of a molding die. SOLUTION: The method of forming a molding die has a 1st process for measuring the surface shape of a plurality of the molding surfaces of a 1st die machined into a shape close to a designed shape of an optical device and the positional relation among a plurality of the molding surfaces to each other, a 2nd process for measuring the surface shape of the molding surfaces of the molding molded using the 1st die and the positional relation among the molding surfaces to each other, a 3rd process for calculating the shrinkage of the 1st die and the molding using the measured data obtained in the 1st and the 2nd processes, a 4th process for calculating the residual difference of the molding shape from the designed shape which remains after the shape deviation by the shrinkage difference based on the shrinkage is removed, a 5th process for calculating the shape of the molding surface to cancel the residual difference and a 6th process for fixing the shape of the molding surface of a 2nd die based on the shape obtained in the 5th process and the shrinkage obtained in the 3rd process.
