PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ad hoc mode switching method for radio LAN which realizes automatic switching between an ad hoc mode wherein a beacon which should manually be set is available and an ad hoc mode wherein the beacon is not available. SOLUTION: In the ad hoc mode switching method for radio LAN, a radio LAN of a terminal device to be provided with service is initially set to the ad hoc mode wherein a beacon is available. It is confirmed whether there is a communication from the beacon-available ad hoc mode for a certain period of time and when there is no response of confirmation, the mode is switched to the beacon-unavailable ad hoc. Consequently, the terminal device can automatically be switched to the beacon-available ad hoc mode or beacon-unavailable ad hoc mode. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
