PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus capable of eliminating the troublesome work for adjusting size of a paper discharge tray and miniaturizing the apparatus. SOLUTION: This image recording apparatus is provided with the paper discharge tray 19 provided in the direction of discharge of recording paper so as to expand and shrink freely, a paper discharge tray expansible means B for expanding and shrinking the paper discharge tray in accordance with a command of a control part 2, and the control part 2 for controlling the paper discharge tray expansible means B in such a way that length in the direction of discharge of recording paper of the paper discharge tray 19 corresponds to size of the recording paper to be discharged when discharging the recording paper.
