A blood water content measuring instrument (10) comprises a pulse wave sensing section (60) for invasively sensing a pulse wave at a peripheral vessel and an index extracting section (80) for extracting an index varying depending the blood water content from the sensed pulse wave. The instrument can comprise a low-band eliminating section (70) for eliminating the low-band frequency components, which are noise, from the pulse wave sensed by the pulse wave sensing section (60). The instrument can further comprise linear and quadratic differential sections (110, 120). The index extracting section (80) can extract the peak ratio (b/a) or (d/a) of the quadratic differential waveform as an index.
