De-watering press for paper or carton has transfer assembly with temporary lift-off of dewatering belt and renewed contact with web

A paper web (1) passes through a dewatering press gap sandwiched between an air-permeable de-watering belt (6) and a smooth air-impermeable transfer belt (5). After passing through the gap the dewatering belt lifts clear of the fibrous web to pass through a transfer length (4) before renewing contact with the web. During renewed contact with the web the de-watering belt is in contact with an air suction drum (7), following which the dewatering belt (6) lifts the web from the transfer belt (5). The belt (6) and paper web (1) then continue together. The press gap is formed by two drums (2, 3) one of which is a shoe press (18) drum (3).
