<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid competition between a protection switch by SONET (synchronous optical network) and a protection switch by RPR (resilient packet ring) apparatuses in a protection control method for a communication network, which is suitably applied when the RPR apparatus is connected to a ring network by BLSR (bi-directional line-switched ring) and the RPR apparatuses thereof. <P>SOLUTION: When the ring switch of the BLSR 20 is made valid, protection functions in the RPR apparatuses 11, 12 are made invalid.
