<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating pretreatment apparatus which attains space saving, productivity improvement, and remarkable reduction in the cost of equipment and chemicals, the number of management stages and the load of water exhaust treatment even in a composite body of iron and aluminum. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with: a treatment tank 101 which is filled with a degreasing and chemical conversion solution containing at least a mixed solvent at least comprising a polar organic solvent and water in a prescribed weight ratio, and sodium ions and/or lithium ions, phosphate ions, zinc ions, nickel ions, manganese ions, nitrate ions and/or nitrite ions, and into which an automobile body B is dipped; an aluminum chemical conversion treatment zone 300 which is provided on the poststage thereof and used for spraying a chemical conversion treatment liquid for aluminum onto the automobile body; and a rinse tank 201 which is provided on the poststage of the zone and in which a cleaning liquid is filled and the automobile body is dipped. The vapor generated from the treatment tank and the aluminum chemical conversion treatment zone passes through a duct having a plurality of suction inlets by the suction of exhaust apparatuses 34 and 38, and is separated into gas/liquid with eliminators 33 and 37.
