PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a work of compression of refrigerant by a compressor by focusing attention on a volume capacity of the compressor and retaining the intake pressure of the refrigerant in the compressor at high pressures. SOLUTION: This engine heat pump is provided with a main compressor 2 driven by an engine 4, an indoor heat exchanger 8, an outdoor heat exchanger 5, an expansion valve 23 for the indoor heat exchanger, an expansion valve 21 for the outdoor heat exchanger, and an engine waste heat recovery device 6 provided in parallel to the outdoor heat exchanger 5, an expansion valve 22 for the engine waste heat recovery device 6, and an auxiliary compressor 3 compressing the refrigerant passing through the engine waste heat recovery device 6. This engine heat pump is so constituted that the refrigerant exhausted from the auxiliary compressor 3 is joined with the refrigerant exhausted from the main compressor 2 and the volume of the auxiliary compressor 3 is set smaller than that of the main compressor 2.
