PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating material for a metal pipe which can improve a defect caused in graft-modification of a polyolefin using a conventional silane coupling agent and can express a high adhesive strength so far unattainable, and also to provide a communication cable using the material. SOLUTION: The material comprises a modified polyolefin which is copolymerized or graft-polymerized with an unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbon monomer containing a silyl group substituted with a hydrolyzable functional group.
