PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor capable of similarly applying smoothing processing even to a pixel array that is vertically or horizontally symmetrical. SOLUTION: This image processor is provided with a pixel data extracting means for extracting, from image data, data of a target pixel and pixel data around the target pixel, and a pixel data generating means for generating pixel data that have been subjected to smoothing and resolution conversion on the basis of the pixel data around the target pixel. The pixel data generating means has 0 to 16 registers for a matrix of 3×3 pixels. In expanding the matrix in a main scanning direction and a sub-scanning direction, selection is made in the order of registers "8", "9", "10" and "11", in expanding the matrix only in the sub-scanning direction, selection is made in the order of registers "12" and "13", in expanding the matrix only in the main scanning direction, selection is made in the order of registers "14" and "15", and in eliminating noise without expansion, only a register "16" is selected.
