PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of trimming with a trimming frame not to automatically cut a main object when trimming an input image of an aspect ratio different from that of an output image while matching it with the aspect ratio of the output image. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is provided with an input means for inputting image data, a main object recognizing means for recognizing the position of the main object in the image data inputted from the input means from the image data, a trimming means for trimming the image data inputted from the input means, a trimming frame determining means for automatically determining a frame for trimming by the trimming means, and an output means for outputting image data trimmed by the trimming means based upon the trimming frame determined by the trimming frame determining means. The trimming means operates aspect ratios of the input image data and data to be outputted from the output means, determines a trimming size to perform at least one of longitudinal and lateral trimmings, and determines the trimming frame determined by the trimming size based on the result of the main object recognizing means.
