PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce 4-oxaheptane-1,7-diol by using acrolein as a raw material. SOLUTION: In a method for producing the 4-oxaheptane-1,7-diol by a protection step, an oxidation step and a hydrolysis/reduction step by using the acrolein as the raw material, 1,3-propanediol produced in the hydrolysis/reduction step is fed to at least the protection step in the protection step and the oxidation step, and the acrolein is reacted with the 1,3-propanediol in the protection step to provide a product group containing 2-vinyl-1,3-dioxane and 2-(6-hydroxy-3-oxahexyl)-1,3-dioxane as main components.
