<p>A magnetic recording medium ensuring good reproduction output, noise level and error rate and exhibiting excellent stability of storage. The magnetic recording medium (10) has such a structure that a magnetic layer (3) of maghemite thin film containing cobalt is formed on a long basic body (1) of aromatic polyimide, wherein the basic body (1) has a film thickness of 3-10 mum, and a ten-point average roughness (SRz) of 5-30 nm on the magnetic layer (3) forming surface, and the magnetic layer (3) has a film thickness of 10-50 mum, a central surface average roughness (SRa) of 0.1-3.0 nm, and a coercive force in the in-plane direction of 2000-4000 Oe (158000-316000 A/m).</p> |
