PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a wedge 7 for fixing a tread easy to drive. SOLUTION: This wedge 7 fixing the tread 4 is inserted into a gap 5, which is formed between an under surface of the tread 4 and a downside surface 3a of a forward and inward opened tread fitting-in groove 3, below the tread 4 which is fitted into the groove 3 formed in the inside surface of a string 1 of a staircase. The wedge 7 comprises a main body 8 which is constituted in such a manner as to be vertically thinner toward a back end from a front end, and a protrusion 9 to be percussed, which is continuously provided in the front part of the main body 8 and protruded inward from the groove 3.
