PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copper mold which is used for continuously casting molten steel in the presence of zinc and/or sulfur and of which the service life is drastically extended without giving serious effects to the heat-flow in the copper mold and also to the cooling-output. SOLUTION: A copper mold 1 for continuously casting the molten steel is provided at least with a single layer of a diffusion barrier layer 3 in the contact range 2 with the molten steel where the mold 1 receives the largest heat stress in the presence of the zinc and/or the sulfur.
