<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a purge at operation stop of a solid polymer type fuel cell using pure hydrogen and air as fuel. <P>SOLUTION: Supply of a reaction gas to the cathode side is cut off by an entrance cutoff valve at operation stop. A cathode-side exhaust gas is circulated to the upstream side through a circulation line. A battery reaction in the fuel cell is continued to consume oxygen in the cathode-side exhaust gas, so that an inactive gas of nitrogen gas is utilized for the purges on the cathode side and on the anode side in the fuel cell. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
