PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the residual quantity of rolled paper without damaging the rolled paper. SOLUTION: This rolled paper residual quantity detection method detects the residual quantity of the rolled paper 1 in a printing and outputting device for visualizing image information which is requested to be printed with the usage of the rolled paper 1. When paper P is pulled out of the rolled paper 1, pull quantity of the paper P and rotating quantity of the rolled paper 1 are detected, and the existence of the residual quantity of the rolled paper 1 is detected based on the rotating quantity of the rolled paper 1 and an outer peripheral diameter of a core of the rolled paper 1.
