A shifting signal for shifting to desired shift-speed is generated after the desired shift-speed is computed based on adjusted shift-pattern when shifting is required. A shift-pattern adjusting coefficient is computed using a modular neural network based on input signals input from detectors. Shifting is determined if it is required based on the adjusted shift-pattern which is being adjusted based on the computed shift-pattern adjusting coefficient. An independent claim is also included for a shift control apparatus for automatic transmission of vehicle.
