PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing method by which an image of high quality having high image density at a solid part, no image damage (transfer omission, a fixation defect, etc.) due to carrier sticking, and good solid filling can be obtained by making large an area where a latent image is developed with toner by making the whole developer carrier contribute to development as a development area. SOLUTION: In the developing method characterized in that a developer carrier 111 having magnets inside is arranged opposite an image carrier 100 and the developer carrier 111 carries a two-component developer containing a toner T and a magnetic carrier MC and conveys the developer to development areas A to C formed with the image carrier and a magnetic brush is formed of a nap of the aggregated magnetic carrier having the toner on the surface in the development areas to develop the latent image formed on the image carrier with the toner of the magnetic brush, the latent image on the image carrier is developed in the development areas with a suspended toner separated from the magnetic carrier MC which has the toner on the surface and has residual magnetism (σ<SB>r</SB>)≥10 emu/cm<SP>3</SP>.
