PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a mobile device capable of smoothly traveling along a wall or obstacle while keeping a fixed distance from the wall or obstacle with a simple structure and by a simple control. SOLUTION: This device has a traveling means for moving a body; a movement control means for controlling the traveling means to control the movement of the body; a movable body 25 having an obstacle contact part 27 which is protruded from the body to abut on the obstacle around the body, and a protruding length detecting means for detecting the protruding length of the movable body 25 from the body. The movement control means changes the traveling direction of the body according to the output of the protruding length detecting means. Accordingly, a mobile device capable of moving while keeping a fixed distance from the wall or obstacle with a simple structure and by a simple control can be realized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
