PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the thinning of electrodes due to galvanic corrosion of the electrodes by the constant DC current between the electrodes when the electrodes are immersed in water as a DC current is constantly applied between the electrodes. SOLUTION: This water heater is provided with a vessel 1 storing water, a pump 4 discharging the water in the vessel 1, and a water level detecting means 5 intermittently impressing the DC voltage between a plurality of electrodes installed in the vessel 1 and detecting the presence/absence of the water by detecting whether or not the DC current flows between the electrodes.
