A multi-phase circular loom forms cross-links with variable-position shedding in groups of warp threads. A first group of warp threads (4.1) are consistently placed in a shedding position. A second group of warp threads (4.2) is consistently located between first and second shedding positions. In the first shedding position the two warp thread groups (4.1, 4.2) span a shed and a shuttle (10) is passed through the shed. At the second shed formation point, the first warp thread group (4.1) is laterally transposed with respect to the second group (4.2). During the subsequent movement of the second warp thread group (4.2) into the first shed position, the warp threads (4) dive into a neighbouring gap within the first warp thread group (4.1). During the subsequent halt of the second warp group (4.2) at the second shed formation point, there is lateral transposition of the warp thread group (4.1) in the opposite direction. Also claimed is a commensurate loom assembly.
