PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium for high density recording having little show-through effects, excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics and also a good winding figure. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium having a magnetic layer on one side of a flexible support object and a back layer on the reverse face, a magnetic recording tape has a back layer of which surface has 10-200 protrusions with a height of 50-100 nm measured with an atomic force microscope per 90μm square on a side and 10 or less protrusions with a height of 100-500 nm per 90μm square on a side, and a magnetic layer on which surface, projected cupping is 3-20% of the tape width.
